Ganderbal, Jan 28: An avalanche hit the Sonamarg tourist resort late Tuesday night; however, there was no loss of life, officials said.
They said the avalanche hit the Sonamarg resort in Ganderbal district at 10:12 pm on Tuesday.
The massive avalanche was caught on CCTV camera, showing snow engulfing buildings, officials said.
However, they said that there were no reports of any loss of life.
Officials said that despite the intensity of the slide, there were no reports of any loss of life.
Following continuous snowfall across Kashmir, a high-intensity avalanche warning had been issued for the region on Monday.
Sonamarg and most parts of Kashmir received moderate to heavy snowfall since December 24.
About 4 feet of snow has accumulated at the health resort.
Meanwhile, locals and hoteliers living around the avalanche spot said that the situation was normal.
They said such avalanches occur at the same spot often, and there was no need to panic.
They said that the footage mainly showed winds generated by the avalanche.
After the avalanche, the Police in Ganderbal on Wednesday issued an advisory, urging people, tourists, and transporters to strictly avoid visiting or halting in avalanche-prone areas.
According to officials, the impact of the avalanche was minimal and no loss of life or property was reported.
A Police team, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), timely reported to the area to assess the situation.
The official said that concerned agencies were closely monitoring the situation, and precautionary measures were being taken to ensure public safety in the region.
Meanwhile, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) said snow clearance work had been launched on the Zojila Pass along the Srinagar-Leh National Highway.
An official said that machinery was pressed into work for snow clearance on the Zojila Pass, which experienced about 2 to 3 feet of snow on Monday.
The road was closed as a precautionary measure, and the road clearance work was started early Wednesday morning with the improvement in weather.
An official said that once the highway is cleared, the traffic movement would be restored after assessing the road conditions.
They said multiple avalanches and a huge accumulation of snow were making the task challenging.
The authorities urged the drivers to take precautions while travelling on the road.
