Former Director of Radio Kashmir and Doordarshan Rafiq Massodi, while speaking to Ziraat Times, said:

“My association with farhad sahab has been since 4 decades.. from the days I used to come for children’s programs… then as a colleague in Radio Kashmir he would really contribute excellent suggestions to me for my productions like Sehri programs, family programs & Sufi saint programs…he would monitor all programs & inform me even after his retirement in 2006… I pray that Allah grants him Maghfirat & place in Jannah….”

After Hadi, another Bangladesh student leader shot in head

Dhaka, Dec 22: Unidentified gunmen on Monday shot in the head Motaleb Shikder, a second leader of Bangladesh’s violent student-led 2024 uprising.

The attack took place in southwestern Khulna city, days after the killing of prominent youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi.

“The Khulna Division head of NCP (National Citizen Party) and central coordinator of the party’s workers front, Motaleb Shikder, was shot a few minutes ago,” NCP’s joint principal coordinator Mahmuda Mitu said in a Facebook post.

Mitu, a doctor, said Shikder was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.

The Kaler Kantha newspaper, quoting hospital sources, said Shikder was shot on the left side of his head, and he was bleeding profusely when he was brought to the facility, where the doctors started emergency treatment.

The attack came days after Hadi, a prominent leader of the student-led protests last year that led to the ouster of the prime minister Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government, was shot in the head on December 12 by masked gunmen at an election campaign in central Dhaka’s Bijoynagar area.

The 32-year-old Inqilab Mancha spokesperson died while undergoing treatment in Singapore on Thursday. Hadi was a candidate for the scheduled February 12 general elections.

The interim government of Muhammad Yunus staged a nationwide mourning for Hadi’s death on Saturday and said no stone would be left unturned to track down his killers as violence erupted in Dhaka and other major cities afresh over the attack and subsequent death.

Faisal Karim Masud’s parents, wife and a female friend of the prime suspect have been arrested by police, but said they were unsure about his current whereabouts.

After Monday’s clandestine attack on Shikder in Khulna city’s Majid Sarani area, police said they were yet at dark about the attack perpetrators or motive but launched an “immediate manhunt” for their arrest.

Local police station chief Animesh Mondal, however, informed reporters that Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) authorities now shifted Shikder to its City Imaging Centre to pinpoint the state of his injury.

Search operation widened to track down terrorists hiding in forest belt in J-K’s Udhampur

Jammu, Dec 22: Security forces widened the area of the search operation to track down terrorists hiding in the forest belt of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Monday, officials said.

The cordon and search operation, which entered its second day, was launched in the Majalta forests after two terrorists reportedly took food from a house before escaping into the nearby forest area, officials said on Sunday.

The area of the cordon and search operation, backed by sniffer dogs and aerial surveillance, was widened to nearly ten kilometres in the forest belt on Monday morning to pin down the two terrorists hiding in the Majalta area, they said.

The expansion was necessitated following the sighting of the terrorists in the forest area for the third time in the past few days. The movement of the duo was reported on Sunday night too.

The joint search operation by police and paramilitary forces was underway in Chore Motu and its adjoining forest villages in the Majalta area, about five kilometres west of the site of an earlier encounter that left a policeman dead, the officials said.

They said an intelligence input was received late Saturday that two unidentified terrorists visited the house of Mangtu Ram in Chore Motu village at around 6.30 pm and took food.

On December 15, a policeman was killed in an encounter with terrorists at Soan village in the Majalta area after security forces received information about the movement of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists in the region. The terrorists managed to escape, taking advantage of thick foliage and darkness, the officials said.
