Crackdown against Jamaat-e-Islami cadres in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 12: Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security forces said on Wednesday that massive crackdowns have been carried out against the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) cadres in the Valley in the aftermath of the Delhi terror blast in which eight people were killed and many others injured.

The intelligence agencies attribute the Delhi blast to the panic of Dr Mohd Umar driving the i20 car rather than a suicidal attack.

But the fact that Dr Umar was on the run after his colleagues involved in white collar terrorism were arrested indicates that the module intended to carry out a major terrorist strike.

Police said on Wednesday that in a massive crackdown against the banned JeI organisation, police in Kulgam district carried out coordinated raids at more than 200 locations across the district.

These searches were conducted at the houses and premises of JeI members and their associates as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle networks supporting terrorism and to neutralise their ground-level influence.

Police said that during the past four days alone, more than 400 Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) have been conducted across different areas of the district, including locations previously associated with encounters, militant hideouts, and Over Ground Workers (OGWs).

In another major coordinated operation, Sopore Police carried out a series of search operations across multiple locations in the district of Sopore, targeting individuals and premises linked to the JeI, which had been banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Police said in the district-wide counter terror and separatist ecosystem action, simultaneous raids were conducted at over 25 locations across Sopore, Zaingeer, and Rafiabad areas with the assistance of other security forces.

The searches were based on credible intelligence inputs indicating attempts by JeI-linked elements to revive their activities under different fronts.

“During the operations, a significant quantity of incriminating material, including documents, digital gadgets, and printed content with links to the banned organisation, was recovered and seized for detailed scrutiny. Several individuals are being questioned to ascertain their involvement in unlawful activities,” police said.

Police in Anantnag district said that around 500 individuals with links to banned organisations, including JeI and relatives of JKNOPs (J&K natives operating from Pakistan), have been interrogated so far. Many of them have reportedly been bound down and shifted to the District Jail Mattan in Anantnag under preventive detention laws.

During the raids, police seized incriminating documents, digital devices, and other materials of evidentiary value. Several JeI members were also questioned to trace wider networks allegedly aiding terrorists.

In the Shopian district, police carried out searches at multiple locations, targeting the residences of JeI activists. Police said the houses of Dr Hameed Fayaz at Naidgam and Mohammad Yousuf Falahie at Chitragam, among others, were searched during the operation.

The searches were conducted as part of ongoing investigations in the area.

2 cartridges, explosives among over 40 samples collected from site

New Delhi, Nov 12: Two cartridges, including a live ammunition, and samples of two different types of explosives are among more than 40 samples that have been collected by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team from the blast site near the Red Fort, officials said on Wednesday.

Preliminary analysis suggests that one of the explosive samples appears to be ammonium nitrate, they said.

On Monday, 360 kg of ammonium nitrate was recovered from Faridabad during an investigation in Faridabad when Dr Muzammil Ganaie and Dr Shaheen Sayeed, both connected to the Al Falah university were arrested.

“The second explosive sample is believed to be more powerful than ammonium nitrate. Its exact composition will be confirmed after detailed forensic examination,” an official said.

According to the officials, the FSL team found the cartridges while inspecting the spot.

More than 40 samples have been collected till now.

A high-intensity explosion ripped through a slow moving vehicle near Red Fort traffic signal on Monday, claiming 12 lives.

Further investigation is underway to determine the nature of the explosives and how they were used in the blast, the officials added.

The FSL has constituted a special team to analyse the samples. The team has been directed to expedite the examination and submit the report without delay, officials said.

The lab has been functional round the clock since the blast.

Delhi Police on high alert, checking continues in national capital

New Delhi, Nov 12: The Delhi Police has been put on high alert and massive checking drives are being carried out across the national capital following the powerful explosion near the Red Fort metro station that left 12 people dead and many injured, officials said on Wednesday.

Police personnel, along with paramilitary forces, are deployed in large numbers at all the entry and exit points of Delhi. Vehicles entering and leaving the city are being thoroughly checked as part of the intensified security measures, they said.

Senior police officers are personally supervising the security checks at interstate borders, including Ghazipur, Singhu, Tikri, and Badarpur.

Vehicles are being checked randomly at markets, metro stations, railway terminals and bus stands to ensure that no suspicious movement goes unnoticed.

A senior police officer said that all district units and specialised wings have been directed to remain on alert and increase patrolling in crowded areas, especially near tourist spots, malls and religious places.

“We are taking no chances. The focus is on maintaining public confidence and ensuring that the city remains secure,” the officer said.

Sniffer dogs, metal detectors and anti-sabotage teams are pressed into service at sensitive locations. The police have also asked residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects or persons immediately through emergency helplines.

Meanwhile, coordination meetings are held between the Delhi Police, Intelligence Bureau, and paramilitary forces to review the security situation and assess inputs related to the blast.

The enhanced security measures will continue, officials said.

Trump softens stance on H-1B visa reform, says US needs to “bring this talent” as it can’t rely on long-term unemployed

Trump softens stance on H-1B visa reform, says US needs to “bring this talent” as it can’t rely on long-term unemployed

Washington DC, Nov 12: US President Donald Trump has appeared to have softened his stance on his administration’s aggressive push on H-1B visa reforms, acknowledging the need to import specialised foreign talent to fill critical roles in the American workforce.

During an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Tuesday (local time), Trump defended the value of skilled immigrant workers, arguing that the US cannot simply repurpose long-term unemployed Americans for complex roles in manufacturing and defence without extensive training.

The US President further noted that while he supports raising wages for American workers, the US must still “bring this talent” to maintain its industrial and technological edge.

“I agree, but you also have to bring this talent,” Trump said when asked whether H-1B visa reform would be a major priority for his administration.

Earlier in September, Trump signed a proclamation that triggered a major overhaul of the H-1B visa petition.

According to the proclamation, there will now be a USD 100,000 fee for new H-1B visa applications, a sharp increase from the previous level of about USD 1,500.

The US State Department later clarified that the new fee requirement applies only to individuals or companies filing new H-1B petitions or entering the H-1B lottery after September 21.

Current visa holders and petitions submitted before that date remain unaffected. Under the proclamation, a USD 100,000 payment must accompany every new H-1B visa petition filed after the deadline, including those submitted for entries in the 2026 lottery.

When countered during the interview that the US has “plenty of talented people,” Trump countered, “No, you don’t. There are certain skills you don’t have, and people have to learn them. You can’t take people off the unemployment line and say, ‘I’m going to put you into a factory where we’re going to make missiles.’”

The US President further cited an example from the state of Georgia, where, according to him, the removal of skilled foreign workers created difficulties in manufacturing complex products.
“They had people from South Korea that had made batteries all their life. Making batteries is very complicated and very dangerous — a lot of explosions, a lot of problems. They had like 500 or 600 people in the early stages to make batteries and to teach people how to do it,” he said.

Trump was referring to the raids conducted by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials at an under-construction Hyundai plant in the state of Georgia in September, during which hundreds of South Korean workers were arrested and deported.

He emphasised that such industries require specialised expertise that cannot be immediately filled by untrained or long-term unemployed workers.

“You can’t just say a country is coming in, going to invest USD 10 billion to build a plant, and take people off the unemployment line who haven’t worked in five years and they’re going to start making missiles. It doesn’t work that way,” he added.

Trump’s remarks mark a notable shift from his earlier hardline stance on foreign worker visas, particularly the H-1B programme, which has been one of the central topics in US debates over immigration and employment.

Srinagar, Nov 11: A day after a devastating car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, security agencies across Jammu and Kashmir have gone on high alert, launching an extensive security drive.

From Srinagar to border districts like Rajouri and Kupwara, extra checkpoints have been set up, security forces are frisking vehicles with modern gadgets, and identity checks have been intensified at all major junctions, bus terminals, and entry points.

Officials said the measures are precautionary but essential.

“Extraordinary security arrangements have been put in place across J&K to ensure public safety and maintain peace,” said a senior Police officer here. “We are using advanced scanners, handheld metal detectors, and explosive-trace detection (ETD) devices at major checkpoints.”

In Srinagar city, police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel have been deployed at all major intersections, including Lal Chowk, Dalgate, Bemina, and Nowgam.

Vehicles are being stopped randomly and occupants asked to produce identity documents.

Similar security tightening was reported from Pulwama, Shopian, and Anantnag, where at least four persons have already been detained as part of the ongoing investigation into the Faridabad terror module, believed to be linked to the Red Fort blast.

In north Kashmir, the Police have set up additional checkpoints at Sopore, Baramulla, Handwara, and Kupwara.

The patrols by security forces have also been intensified along the Line of Control (LoC) to prevent infiltration attempts.

At Srinagar International Airport, security personnel have been put on the highest level of alert. Passenger screening has been enhanced, and luggage is being checked manually in addition to X-ray scanning.

The Jammu and Banihal railway stations have also seen heightened frisking operations, with railway police using explosive detectors and canine units.
