The precious metal of 99.9 per cent purity jumped Rs 1,500 to reach a lifetime high of Rs 1,19,500 per 10 grams (inclusive of all taxes), up from Rs 1,18,000 per 10 grams in the previous session.

In the local bullion market, gold of 99.5 per cent purity also rallied by Rs 1,500 to hit a record high of Rs 1,18,900 per 10 grams from Rs 1,17,400 per 10 grams on Saturday.

Pahalgam attack: Special court extends period of probe, accused's custody

Srinagar, Sep 29: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Monday threw open seven tourist spots in the valley that were closed in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

The tourist spots were opened following directions issued by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha after a meeting of the Unified Headquarters on Friday.

“After a thorough security review and discussion in today’s UHQ meeting, I’ve ordered reopening of more tourist spots in Kashmir and Jammu Divisions, which were temporarily closed as precautionary measures,” Sinha said in a post on X on Friday.

The LG administration shut down nearly 50 tourist spots following the terror attack at Baisaran in the Pahalgam area on April 22, in which heavily-armed terrorists shot dead 26 people — mostly tourists.

The seven tourist spots that were reopened in the Kashmir division include Aru Valley, Rafting Point Yanner, Akkad Park, Padshahi Park and Kaman Post.

The LG had ordered the reopening of five tourist spots in the Jammu division as well. These include Dagan Top in Ramban, Dhaggar in Kathua and Shiv Cave in Salal, Reasi.

The LG administration had reopened 16 tourist destinations, including some parts of Pahalgam, in June.

Imperative that youth embrace, adapt to advanced technological skills: President Murmu

New Delhi, Sep 29: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday said it is imperative that youth embrace and adapt to advanced technological skills as India advances on the path of technology-driven growth.

Addressing the probationers of the Indian Skill Development Service (ISDS), who had called on her at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here, she said skill and knowledge are the true engines of economic growth and social progress for any nation.

“Countries that develop a highly skilled workforce are better equipped to respond to global challenges and seize emerging opportunities in various areas of development.

“As India advances on its path of technology-driven growth, it is imperative that our youth embrace and adapt to the advanced technological skills,” Murmu said.

The President said the probationers would play an important role in shaping a robust, future-ready workforce “Your role in making India the Skill Capital of the World will be significant,” she said.

Besides the ISDS, the probationers of the Indian Statistical Service and Central Engineering Service had also called on the President.

Addressing the probationers of the Indian Statistical Service, Murmu said the importance of measurable and quantifiable indicators in effective governance cannot be overemphasised.

“Sound policy formulation and implementation depend on accurate statistical analysis. In today’s data-driven world, the relevance of statistics has grown immensely,” she said.

The President said India has entered a new era of socio-economic and digital transformation.

“The growing adoption of emerging technologies has significantly enhanced transparency and efficiency in governance.

These technological initiatives generate a continuous flow of data which enables the government to make more informed and effective decisions,” Murmu said.

While interacting with the probationers of Central Engineering Service, she said engineers play an instrumental role in advancing a nation’s technological progress and economic growth, and they must be prepared to meet the challenges of a growing knowledge base and rapidly evolving technologies.

“With the government’s strong focus on large-scale infrastructure development, the engineering sector is set for significant growth,” the President said, insisting that  “it is also crucial to ensure that development is sustainable”.

Murmu urged the probationers of all three services to always work with the aim of ensuring progress of the most disadvantaged sections of society.

The choices you make, the values you uphold and the dedication you bring to your work will influence the lives of the people, she said.

“By serving with passion and integrity, you can contribute in the making of a nation that is more prosperous, resilient, and inclusive.

“Through your sincere efforts, you can ensure that India stands as a model of strength and progress before the world. I am confident that you will work with commitment and enthusiasm for an inclusive and developed India,” the President said.

Rafting resumes on Chenab river in Reasi after months long suspension

Rafting resumes on Chenab river in Reasi after months long suspension

Reasi, Sep 29: Adventure tourism resumed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district as operators restarted rafting in the Chenab river after a long halt, with scores of tourists thronging the venue to enjoy the water sport.

Reasi is famous for rafting at Baradari, where the Chenab flows amid majestic mountains and forested riverbanks, attracting thousands of adventure seekers.

“Adventure tourism is back in action. We restarted rafting in the Chenab today after a suspension of several months. We are happy to resume it,” said operator Surinder Singh.

He added that the tourism industry had suffered badly following the Pahalgam terror attack in April, subsequent Operation Sindoor and floods.

“The government had closed rafting for safety precautions. It has restarted after almost six months, and we hope it will get even better in the coming days,” he said.

Long closure of rafting activities had severely hit livelihoods, but operators and guides are now relieved as work picks up again.

Authorities have also ensured strict safety measures for tourists.

“This will bring the adventure tourism industry back on track and provide livelihood to many people connected with rafting. Several companies had been set up on loans to promote adventure tourism, but the suspension had hit the economy hard. Now, it is back,” Singh said.

Tourists thronged the site, with many sharing videos of the experience on social media.

“We are happy to be here. The rafting was thrilling. We heard it had been suspended for a few months, so we were excited to try it. Once you raft in the cold waters of the Chenab, your tiredness goes away,” said Arjun Shukla, a tourist from Gujarat.

Another tourist, Sumit Karwani, said it was a wonderful experience.

“Since it was my first time, it felt truly special. We had come for Vaishno Devi darshan, and later learned about rafting. Although I was doubtful after the floods, we still tried it and it was amazing,” Karwani said.

Last week, the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department handed over 14 commercial river rafting permits to adventure operators in Baradari, Reasi, in a bid to promote adventure tourism and provide livelihood opportunities to local youth.

Ladakh facing consequences of 2019 decisions: MP Ruhullah

Support Centre's actions but innocents should not be harmed: Srinagar MP

Srinagar, Sep 29: MP Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Monday said people in Ladakh are now experiencing the fallout of the 2019 move that downgraded and split Jammu and Kashmir, adding that decisions affecting the region are taken in Delhi without local consent.

Speaking to reporters, Ruhullah alleged that even former BJP supporters in Ladakh are facing cases under UAPA and NSA for expressing disagreement.

Ruhullah said the National Conference stands with the people of Ladakh in their struggle. “If they are demanding inclusion in the Sixth Schedule or restoration of their rights, we are with them,” he added.

He said the challenges being faced in Ladakh are similar to those in Kashmir and Jammu. “What was happening in Kashmir is now happening in Ladakh and Jammu as well,” he said

On the Budgam bypoll, he said the party will decide its candidate once the Election Commission announces the schedule. “Once the election is announced, we will see. One major responsibility people have given us is to stop the BJP. Acting on that is both a political and moral duty,” he added.

Ruhullah criticised the Centre for delaying uydespite constitutional obligations. He said that any Assembly seat falling vacant must go to polls within six months. “In Nagrota, more than a year has passed and people are still waiting,” he said.

Referring to the 2018 dissolution of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, he alleged, “When the Assembly was dissolved, elections should have been held within six months. That delay was illegal. There was a conspiracy behind it to keep the Assembly out of place.”

He welcomed the recent appointment of observers by the Election Commission for by-elections alongside Bihar polls, saying it has raised hopes that Budgam and Nagrota may finally go to vote. “We have heard that observers have been appointed. It is hoped the by-elections will be held with Bihar,” he said. (KNS)

Which Add-Ons Should You Consider for E-Bike Insurance?

Which Add-Ons Should You Consider for E-Bike Insurance?

Your electric bike may look sleek and simple, but the way you use it tells a different story. From quick trips around town to longer rides on weekends, every rider has a different pattern.

That’s why insurance can’t be the same for all. Add-ons help you customise your cover based on your daily life. Read this blog to know more.

7 Add-Ons to Consider for Your EV Bike Insurance

Instead of picking everything, it’s smarter to select add-ons for your bike insurance online that match how and where you use your e-bike. Here are seven that work especially well with most EV bike insurance plans.

  • Zero Depreciation Cover Add-On

Claim settlements are usually reduced based on how old your bike or its parts are. That’s where this add-on proves useful. It allows you to claim the full cost of damaged parts without factoring in depreciation.

This becomes especially valuable when your EV is relatively new, and the parts are expensive to replace. In most cases, choosing zero depreciation early can help you recover a larger share of repair expenses.

The tyre protect cover is applicable only if your electric bike comes with run-flat tyre technology. This add-on compensates for the cost of replacing damaged tyres with ones of equivalent or near-equivalent type

It also covers labour charges and wheel balancing costs related to tyre replacement. While reviewing EV bike insurance options, check for this add-on if your bike has premium tyre features, as it enhances overall protection.

  • Roadside Assistance Add-On

EVs, like all vehicles, can face unexpected issues during a ride. Whether it’s a drained battery, a tyre puncture, or a technical snag, a roadside assistance add-on connects you to help without delays.

Support generally includes towing, on-site mechanical assistance, battery charging, and other basic repairs. This is ideal for city commuters and long-distance riders alike, especially in areas where service centres are far apart.

This add-on helps bridge the gap between your bike’s insured value and its original invoice price. If your EV is stolen or declared a total loss, the insurer pays you the amount you actually spent on the bike.

This includes registration charges and road tax, rather than just the depreciated market value. It’s a strong fit for first-year EV owners, particularly for premium models where the gap between market value and on-road cost can be significant.

When your electric bike is in the garage for repairs after a claim, commuting becomes inconvenient. This add-on provides a daily travel allowance for a limited period while your bike is being repaired.

It’s a useful option if you depend on your vehicle for work or essential travel. Some EV bike insurance plans offer this automatically with higher-value models, but it’s worth confirming when purchasing bike insurance online. The payout typically varies based on your plan, so check the terms before opting in.

Electric bikes come with unique components: motors, batteries, sensors, and high-voltage wiring. This add-on provides specialised protection for those EV-specific parts, which are usually not covered under standard wear and tear or accidental claims.

With the EV Shield add-on, your insurance becomes more relevant to your vehicle type. It typically includes damage due to electrical faults, charging issues, and moisture intrusion. If you’re exploring bike insurance online, look for plans that offer this kind of dedicated support under EV bike insurance policies.

Even electric bikes have fast-wearing parts like screws, bolts, grease, and washers. These are known as consumables, and they’re often not included in standard insurance claims.

This add-on covers the cost of replacing them during servicing or repairs. For those who use their e-bike regularly, it’s a smart addition that reduces small but frequent out-of-pocket expenses.

When finalising your EV bike insurance, don’t overlook how easy and valuable digital convenience can be.

These add-ons allow you to personalise your policy in ways that enhance protection and ensure broader coverage for everyday risks. In addition, it provides doorstep pickup and drop-off, along with a smartphone-enabled claim process that can be completed online in just 7 minutes.

How to Add Them When Buying Bike Insurance Online?

Whenever you buy or renew your bike insurance online, add-ons are usually shown right after selecting your plan type. Here’s how you can include them:

  • Choose your insurer and enter bike details.
  • Select plan type (third-party or standalone own-damage).
  • Browse available add-ons and tick the ones you want.
  • View the revised premium and confirm your purchase.
  • Keep a copy of the policy with add-ons listed clearly.

4 Things to Keep in Mind While Buying Add-Ons

Not all add-ons are necessary for every rider. Consider these factors when choosing your add-ons:

New bikes benefit more from zero depreciation and return-to-invoice.

Long-distance riders may need roadside assistance and battery protection.

In metro areas, repairs and support are quicker. Smaller cities may need wider coverage.

Add-ons increase the premium slightly, so pick what brings real value to you.

How to Match Your Add-ons to Your EV Lifestyle?

Every electric bike rider uses their vehicle differently. Some cruise through short city commutes, while others take longer routes or prefer weekend rides. The way you ride should influence how you customise your insurance.

If you’re riding through traffic-heavy streets every day, quick support matters. Roadside Assistance is a must-have. Battery Protection is also useful, especially if your parking area doesn’t offer covered or dry storage.

New to the world of electric bikes? It’s smart to keep your cover strong for the first year. Zero Depreciation and Return-to-Invoice add-ons help reduce out-of-pocket costs in case of damage or theft.

Covering long distances means higher wear and tear on your bike’s key components. Add Motor and Battery Protection to avoid costly repairs. Roadside Assistance is also handy for those unexpected breakdowns away from the city.

If you’re someone who prefers managing everything through an app, look for plans that offer paperless service and app-based claim filing. These features cut down on paperwork and keep the process smooth.

  • Rider with Regular Servicing

Frequent service visits mean more consumables are being replaced. Adding a Consumables Cover can ease regular expenses. You can also consider extended repair support if your bike is used heavily.

Choosing add-ons this way keeps your policy focused. You don’t need everything, just what fits your usage best.

E-bikes make daily travel clean, smart, and efficient. With the right set of add-ons, your EV bike insurance can be just as smart. From battery cover to real-time support on the road, it all adds up to a smooth, protected ride.

So, the next time you go for bike insurance online, go beyond the basics. Pick what fits you, not just your bike.
