Centre should relook ‘draconian’ provisions of three bills: NC

Srinagar, Aug 20: The National Conference (NC) has voiced strong reservations over certain provisions in the three bills introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, calling them “draconian” and urging the government to reconsider.

“Some provisions of the bills are draconian. These will be opposed tooth and nail,” NC state spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said, demanding a “relook” at the proposed legislation.

Dar expressed hope that the government would “listen to the genuine concerns of the opposition, address them, and act rationally.”

“We hope the democratic principles will not be allowed to be eroded further,” he added.

The NC leader said since the bills have been referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), the party expects that the opposition’s concerns will be addressed at that stage as well.
