CUK’s inter-university winter games conclude in Gulmarg

Srinagar, Mar 3: The All India Inter-University Winter Games 2025–26 hosted by the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) concluded at Gulmarg on Tuesday.

The event crowning champions across multiple snow disciplines including Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, and Ski Mountaineering.

The tournament witnessed participation from universities across the country, with athletes showcasing grit, endurance, and technical excellence amid challenging snowy conditions.

Athletes from various universities braved the snowy terrain, with men and women battling in Slalom, Giant Slalom, and Parallel Slalom (Alpine Skiing), Slalom and Giant Slalom (Snowboarding), and Sprint (Ski Mountaineering).

International skier Faizan Ahmad Lone of Guru Kashi University Punjab dominated men’s Alpine Skiing by clinching gold in all three events.

AIU Observer Dr. Rina Poonia, Director Sports of Kashmir University Dr. Surjeet Bali, Assistant Director Tausif Bhat, and a host of sports luminaries were present at the concluding ceremony.

For this year’s edition of AIU winter sports 2025-26,in-charge Director Sports at CUK Dr. Kaukab Azeem was the organising secretary while Assistant Prof. CUK Dr. Mohammad Muzamil Shah was the joint organising secretary and also conducted the proceedings in the closing ceremony.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS:

In men’s alpine skiing, Faizan Ahmad Lone bagged three Golds) while Zubair Ahmad Mir from KU bagged three silvers and Imran Manzoor Lone from KU also bagged Bronze in Slalom and Giant Slalom.

Also, Mustafa Rahim of CUK bagged Bronze in Parallel Slalom.

In women’s alpine skiing, Shah Parihaan Peerzada of KU bagged Gold in Slalom and Giant Slalom besides silver in Parallel slalom while Misbha Maqbool of KU bagged Gold in Parallel Slalom and Silver in Giant Slalo.

Also Huzaima Hanief from CUK bagged Silver in Slalom and Bronzes in Giant slalom and Parallel Slalom while Seerat Farooq from CUK won Bronze in Slalom.

In men’s snowboarding, Vakar Ahmad Lone from RIMT University, Punjab won two Golds while Asif Shabir from KU won Silvers and Balvir Singh from KU won two Bronzes as well.

In women’s Snowboarding, Prakriti Thakur, Chandigarh University, Punjab won two  Golds), Sehar Rashid from CUK won two Silvers and Saima Jan from CUK won 2 Bronze.
