Cyber Police recover 46 missing mobile phones worth lakhs in Ganderbal

Ganderbal, Dec 26: Marking a significant success in tackling cyber-enabled crime, Ganderbal police has recovered 46 missing mobile phones worth several lakhs of rupees from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

The recoveries were made by the Cyber Police Station Ganderbal following multiple complaints lodged by citizens through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) Portal and other police units over the past four months, officials said.

According to officials, the recovery followed multiple complaints lodged by citizens over the past four months regarding lost or missing mobile phones. Acting on these complaints, special teams were constituted by the Cyber Police Station Ganderbal, which carried out sustained technical surveillance and field operations to trace the devices. The recovered mobile phones were formally handed over to their rightful owners by Senior Superintendent of Police Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal, in the presence of DySP Headquarters Ganderbal, Dr Urfaan and incharge Cyber police cell Ganderbal after completion of the prescribed legal formalities. Police said the operation reflects the department’s continued commitment to addressing public grievances and strengthening cyber policing through effective use of technology and coordinated efforts on the ground.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have advised the public to remain cautious while using mobile phones and other electronic devices to avoid cyber frauds and related crimes. Citizens have been urged to promptly report any cybercrime or fraud on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at www.cybercrime.gov.in or directly approach the nearest Cyber Police Station.
