Srinagar, Nov 22: DFA Srinagar has extended its congratulations and best wishes to young footballers Azim Pervaiz Najar and Maroof Shafi, whose selection to the India U-17 men’s squad for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup, Saudi Arabia 2026 Qualifiers, has brought pride to the entire football fraternity of Jammu & Kashmir.
As per a DFA statement issued on Saturday, Azim Pervaiz Najar* is a naturally gifted forward known for his exceptional skill set, pace, creativity and sharp finishing ability. Maroof Shafi is recognised as the youngest Wall of India, admired for his discipline, defensive intelligence and outstanding composure on the field.
“Their selection is a moment of immense pride for the entire football fraternity of J&K. Both players have demonstrated remarkable dedication, professionalism and passion for the game, earning them a well-deserved place on the national squad,” the DFA statement said.
The statement added that DFA Srinagar extends its heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to both athletes as they represent the nation on the continental stage. “We pray for their continued success and hope they bring glory to India and to Jammu & Kashmir,” added the statement.
