New Delhi, Sep 17: Doordarshan celebrated its 66th Foundation Day with a cultural evening titled “Shabdanjali – From Tradition to Modernity” in the capital.
The event showcased India’s diverse artistic heritage and contemporary creativity through music, dance, drama, and storytelling.
The programme featured performances by Maithili Thakur, who presented devotional and folk renditions; Vusat Iqbal Khan and Abaad Ahmed of the Dilli Gharana, who highlighted Sufi and Hindustani classical traditions; and the cast of Devanchal ki Prem Katha, who recreated their popular serial on stage. A Kathakali–Kuchipudi fusion titled Sita-Ravana Vaadam explored themes of resilience and the evolving role of women in society. Doordarshan, launched on 15 September 1959, has grown from black-and-white broadcasts to a digital platform, chronicling India’s cultural, political, and social journey for over six decades.
