Chennai, Aug 12: Veteran statesman, scholar, and cultural ambassador Dr Karan Singh was conferred the prestigious Era Sezhiyan Award at a grand ceremony at VIT Vellore’s Chennai campus. The award, recognising outstanding contributions to society and culture, was presented in the presence of several dignitaries, including former Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu, who presided over the function, as per KNS.
Organised under the leadership of VIT Chancellor Dr. G. Viswanathan, who personally invited Dr. Karan Singh, the event drew a distinguished audience of academicians, students, and cultural enthusiasts.
In his acceptance address, Dr. Karan Singh fondly recalled his long association with Tamil Nadu, praising its artistic brilliance, literary richness, and classical heritage. “Tamil culture is not just a regional treasure—it is a national heritage. Its music, dance, architecture, and philosophy have enriched India for centuries,” he remarked. Expressing gratitude, Dr. Karan Singh said, “Recognition such as this strengthens my resolve to keep working for the preservation and promotion of India’s diverse cultural traditions.
The ceremony concluded with a standing ovation, marking a memorable evening in Chennai’s cultural calendar.
