EU leaders to visit India, attend Republic Day

New Delhi, Jan 16: The President of the European Council, António Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will pay a State Visit to India from January 25 to 27, 2026, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The two leaders will be the chief guests at India’s 77th Republic Day celebrations.

During the visit, they will also co-chair the 16th India–EU Summit on January 27. Both leaders are scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu and hold restricted and delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Modi. An India–EU Business Forum is expected to take place on the sidelines of the summit. India and the European Union have been strategic partners since 2004. Their most recent summit was held virtually in July 2020, and ties have strengthened significantly in recent years, especially after the visit of the EU College of Commissioners to India in February 2025.
