Flash floods sweep away Rajouri man, Poonch girl

Rajouri, Aug 18: A 20-year-old man got washed away in flash floods in a Rajouri rivulet while an eight-year-old girl was swept away in Poonch on Monday while the authorities are conducting a massive rescue operation to track the missing duo.

In Rajouri, officials said that 20-year-old Sayeed Atif Shah, son of Ashfaq Hussain Shah of Dassal was crossing a rivulet at Mubarakpur when the water level in the stream increased abruptly and the boy got swept away in water currents.

“We have launched a massive search operation over it and teams of SDRF, Police, civil administration, and locals are working hard to trace the boy,” Deputy SP SDRF, Civil Defence Rajouri, Jabeen Akhter said.

She said that SSP Rajouri Gaurav Sikarwar and other senior Police officers also visited the site and supervised the operation.

“Our teams are working hard to trace the boy,” the Deputy SP said.

In another incident, eight-years-old Asiya Kouser, daughter of Mushtaq Ahmad of Bufliyaz was present with her family in a dhok at Umraban Bufliyaz where she got washed away.

Police officials said that the girl is missing as of now and efforts are going on to track her.

“Our teams are working hard to search for the missing girl but so far there is no whereabouts,” Deputy SP Surankote, Ajaz Chowdhary said.
