Rajouri, May 16: The people of Gunni in Dhangri block of Rajouri district are yet to recover from the shock they received during recent shelling from across the border.
They said that their village was targeted by a suspected missile fired by Pakistan and it landed in their village . The missile explosion caused widespread damage, injuring two people, a mother and her son. They are currently undergoing treatment in a hospital outside J&K. The injured were identified as Anju Bala (45) wife of Kashmir Singh and her son Sahil Sanwal (23).
The incident occurred in the early morning hours on May 10 when shelling was taking place along the LoC and border areas.
” The massive explosion in this interior village, 25 kms away from Rajouri town and 45 kms away from Line of Control (LoC), took everyone by surprise, causing panic among the villagers,” locals of village said. The blast damaged an area of over 200 meters, uprooting trees and damaging several houses.
The locals said Pakistan targeted civilian areas with heavy weaponry like missiles. “T he incident has left the villagers traumatised, and the residual effects of the missile explosion are still visible,” Daleep Kumar said.
The scale of damage is evident from the fact that big trees were uprooted, and others were cut in half. Several houses in the area received damage, and the villagers are still trying to come to terms with the incident. This incident raises serious concerns about the safety and security of civilians in the region and underscores the need for immediate action to prevent such incidents in the future, the local stated.
