Indian Navy ships INS Tamal, INS Surat make port call at Jeddah

New Delhi, Aug 29: Two frontline Indian Navy warships, INS Tamal, a Talwar-class stealth frigate, and INS Surat, the latest indigenously built guided-missile destroyer arrived at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on August 27 and 28, as part of an operational deployment.

During the port call, personnel from both ships will engage with the Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF) and Border Guards through sports events, professional exchanges, and familiarisation visits to naval facilities.

The Indian Navy will also host a cultural programme for senior RSNF dignitaries, Border Guards, diplomats, local government officials and prominent members of the Indian diaspora. The visit, officials said, highlights India’s growing maritime cooperation with Saudi Arabia and reflects New Delhi’s commitment to enhancing defence ties in the Gulf region.

It will also provide an opportunity for the two navies to exchange best practices and explore new areas of collaboration.
