New Delhi, May 15: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday said he had a “good conversation” with Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, as the two discussed regional cooperation and condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Mr. Jaishankar said: “Good conversation with Acting Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi this evening. Deeply appreciate his condemnation of the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Welcomed his firm rejection of recent attempts to create distrust between India and Afghanistan through false and baseless reports. Underlined our traditional friendship with the Afghan people and continuing support for their development needs. Discussed ways and means of taking cooperation forward.”
The exchange comes amid renewed diplomatic sensitivities in the region, with both sides affirming their intent to resist misinformation and deepen engagement. While India does not formally recognise the Taliban administration, it has maintained a channel of communication, primarily through humanitarian and development support.
