Srinagar, Oct 11: The Jammu & Kashmir Police scripted a remarkable victory by clinching the overall championship trophy in Pencak Silat at the ongoing 10th All India Police Games Judo Cluster, currently being hosted under the aegis of the All India Police Sports Control Board at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex (SKISC), Srinagar.
As per an official police statement issued on Saturday, J&K Police could not field a women’s team; the men alone guided the side to become champion with 13 medals, including eight gold, four silver and one bronze.
The overall second place went to SSB with 47 points earned in both the men’s and women’s sections, while ITBP finished third with 26 points. In total, 20 teams took part in the Pencak Silat event. The Karnataka Police could not open the account, thus drawing a blank in the medal tally.
Earlier, J&K emerged as the overall champion in the men’s section with 53 points, while SSB (29) and Assam Rifles (25) remained second and third, respectively.
In the women’s section, the overall trophy was clinched by Chandigarh Police with 23 points. The SSB and Punjab Police secured 18 points each to finish second and third, respectively.
Meanwhile, the competition in Judo started on Saturday at SKISC in the afternoon session soon after the medal ceremony of the Karate and Pencak Silat events.
The result details as per the statement were in the male category under 45-50 kg: Abhishek Verma, Uttarakhand, 1st; Ahsan-ul-Haq, J&K, 2nd; and Saroj Chhetry, Jharkhand, and Surendra Kumar Yadav, Uttar Pradesh, 3rd.
In 50-55 kg: Ningombam Bikram Singh, Assam Rifles, 1st; Pankaj Gahlot, SSB, 2nd; Wairokpa Herojit Singh, ITBP, and Eshu Bharti, Uttarakhand, 3rd.
In 55-60 kg: Sameer Ahmad Sheikh, J&K, 1st; Gulshan Rajbhar, Assam Rifles, 2nd; M Shasheer, Andhra Pradesh, and S K Rabbani, West Bengal, 3rd.
In 60-65kg: Aaryan, SSB, 1st; BSN Murty, Andhra Pradesh, 2nd; and Nijwm Basumatary, Assam, and V Sujaikaran, Tamil Nadu, 3rd.
In 65-70 kg: Huidrom Bishan Meetei, Assam Rifles, 1st; Sohanveer Singh, SSB, 2nd; Aman, Chandigarh, and Sunil, ITBP, 3rd.
In 70-75 kg: L Dhane Singh, Assam Rifles, 1st; Mohamad Danish Wani, J&K, 2nd; KVVSS RamPrasad, SSB, and Bineet Yadav, Uttar Pradesh, 3rd.
In 75-80 kg: Adil Ahmad Bhat, J&K, 1st; Satender Singh Bogal, SSB, 2nd; Henkong Khiam, Assam Rifles, and Raj Kumar Poonia, Rajasthan, 3rd.
In 80-85 kg: Samit Zahoor, J&K, 1st; Rajesh Maurya, SSB, 2nd; D N VRatnambabu, Andhra Pradesh, and Vikas Kharb, ITBP, 3rd.
In 85-90 kg: K Charan Teja, Andhra Pradesh, 1st; Akhil Sharma, J&K, 2nd; and Manoj Kumar, Uttar Pradesh, 3rd.

The Jammu & Kashmir Police team, as per the statement, were seen celebrating in jubilant spirits as they took home the coveted overall championship trophy, signifying a proud moment for the hosts and a testament to their sporting excellence.
