Srinagar, Oct 30: Jammu and Kashmir has recorded a total of 2,872 domestic violence cases at One Stop Centres (OSCs) for Women over the past two years, the government informed the Legislative Assembly on Thursday. It said these centres provide an integrated support system to women in distress and help prevent further abuse.
Commonly known as Sakhi Centres, the OSCs have been set up in every district to offer safety, security, and comprehensive rehabilitation to women facing violence.
In a written reply to a starred question by MLA Shamima Firdous, the Social Welfare Department said 893 cases were registered at OSCs in 2023–24, while 1,979 cases were recorded in 2024–25 — a total of 2,872 cases in two years. The department noted that the rise in reported cases may reflect growing awareness and increased access to support services.
“These centres are operational across J&K and play a pivotal role in empowering survivors through coordinated multi-sectoral support,” the reply stated.
The Sakhi Centres have been operational in Jammu and Kashmir since 2021 under the Directorate of Mission Shakti. They provide integrated assistance to women affected by violence, including medical aid, psycho-social counselling, legal help, temporary shelter, and police coordination — all under one roof.
Linked with the 181 Women Helpline and 112 Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), the OSCs primarily handle cases of domestic violence, cyber harassment, eve-teasing, sexual harassment, and rape, offering a safe and confidential environment for survivors seeking redress.
