Bengaluru, Jan 6: A high-level delegation of senior officers from the Sericulture Development Department, Jammu and Kashmir, led by Director General Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, participated in the two-day Directors’ Conference of Sericulture Practising States and Union Territories held in Bengaluru.

The conference was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, representatives of the Central Silk Board, and officers from various states and Union Territories. The deliberations focused on evolving strategies for sustainable, inclusive and market-oriented growth of India’s silk sector. The conference was chaired by Secretary (Textiles), Government of India, Neelam Shami Rao.

A series of technical and policy-oriented sessions was held on integrated, technology-driven and market-linked approaches to strengthen the sericulture value chain. Emphasis was laid on quality assurance, branding, innovation and enhancement of farmers’ income, with a focus on ensuring that the benefits of development initiatives reach the grassroots, particularly poor, marginal and disadvantaged farmers.
