Ramban, Jan 28: At least 70 to 80 sheep and goats were killed after a landslide struck a kacha house and adjoining cattle shed in the Hasti area of Kishtwar district on Wednesday, officials said.
Official sources said the livestock belonged to Sachin Kumar, son of Munshi Ram, a resident of Bhatkoot Kuntwara, presently residing in Hasti. The incident occurred when a sudden landslide hit his kacha house and adjoining cowshed, burying the animals under debris.
Soon after receiving information, local residents, revenue officials rushed to the spot and helped retrieve the dead livestock from the damaged house and cowshed. Fortunately, no loss of human life was reported in the incident.
Meanwhile, locals have demanded immediate compensation for the affected family, stating that the loss of livestock has severely impacted their livelihood. They also urged the administration to assess the damage and provide relief at the earliest.
