LSG captain Pant penalised for slow over-rate offence

Srinagar, May 28: Green Valley Educational Institute (GVEI) emerged champions in the U-17 category of the zonal-level boys’ football tournament, defeating Kashmir Harvard in a closely contested final.

Organised by the Zonal Physical Education Office Gulab Bagh in collaboration with the District Youth Services and Sports Department (DYSSD), the multi-age tournament, as per a statement issued on  Wednesday drew participation from 14 schools and culminated with a felicitation ceremony celebrating the young footballers’ talent and team spirit.

The school hosted U-14, U-17, and U-19 zonal-level boys’ football tournaments.

Fourteen teams from across the zone participated in the tournaments, with six thrilling matches played on the opening day, with the final being played on May 28 of 2025.

In the under-14 category, Kashmir Harvard Educational Institute defeated GHS Umerhair to emerge victorious, while GVEI defeated Kashmir Harvard in the under-17 category, clinching the title.

In the under-19 category, Kashmir Harvard secured the top position, with BHSS Hazratbal finishing as runners-up.

A felicitation ceremony was held at GVEI premises to honour the players.

The event was graced by Principal GVEI Riyaz Kathjoo, who praised the participants for their dedication and sportsmanship.

Chairman of GVEI Mohammad Yousuf Wani also lauded the efforts of the young athletes and assured the students that the school would continue to provide more opportunities to help them excel in sports.

“The event not only showcased the sporting talent of the students but also emphasised the importance of physical fitness and teamwork,” the school handout read.
