Srinagar, Sept 14: A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck Assam on Sunday evening, with its epicentre located near Dhekiajuli, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Tremors were felt across Guwahati, Bhutan, and parts of North Bengal.
As per reports, the quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres, as per data from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).
Panic gripped Guwahati as residents rushed out of their homes. Former Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal wrote on X: Major earthquake in Assam. My prayers for everyone’s safety and well-being.
