Meta's billion-dollar offers rejected by Top AI researchers team: Report

Srinagar, July 30: Thinking Machines Lab is an artificial intelligence research and product company led by Mira Murati, the former chief technology officer of OpenAI. The startup was valued at $12 billion in its seed round despite not having launched a product yet.

Not a single employee at Thinking Machines Lab has accepted Meta’s eye-popping job offers, according to a report by Wired. Despite offering massive compensation packages — including one reportedly worth $1 billion over several years — Meta has faced a wave of rejections from the AI startup’s talent pool.

Sources confirmed that several researchers were offered between $200 million and $500 million in stock and salary, to be vested over four years. Yet, as of now, no one has taken the deal.

Founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, Thinking Machines Lab has made waves in the AI industry despite not yet launching a product. The company was valued at $12 billion in its seed round.

Meta’s new Superintelligence Lab — led by Scale AI co-founder Alexandr Wang and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman — is struggling to attract top talent. Some insiders at Thinking Machines Lab reportedly view Wang’s leadership style and limited experience as concerning. Others are skeptical about Meta’s vision for AI, criticizing it as geared toward building content for Facebook and Instagram rather than pushing the boundaries of artificial general intelligence.

For now, it appears that Meta’s money isn’t enough to sway those who believe they’re working on something more meaningful.
