Srinagar, Jan 16: Police have safely defused a live mortar shell which was recovered near an army unit in the Rampur area of Boniyar in Uri tehsil of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said today.
“Information was received telephonically by PS Boniyar from an Indian Army unit regarding the detection of one 51 mm live mortar shell during digging in an army unit’s rear HQ at Rampur Boniyar, within the jurisdiction of PS Boniyar,” said a police spokesman, in a statement.
He said the police secured the area and ensured all requisite safety measures were put in place.
“The live mortar shell was safely disposed of by an Army BDDS team in the presence of SHO Boniyar, Insp Hilal Ahmad. There was no loss of life or damage to property during the operation,” he added.
