Srinagar, May 15: In continuation of its relentless efforts to eradicate the drug menace from society, Police in Ganderbal have arrested a notorious drug peddler and seized a significant quantity of contraband substance from his possession. Besides, a drug consumer was also arrested in south Kashmir’s Awantipora.
A police statement said that acting on credible information received from reliable sources that an individual, namely Fayaz Ahmad Chichi, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Chichi, resident of Chichipati Hariganiwan has concealed contraband substances in his cowshed.
Acting promptly on the information, a special police team from Police Station Gund, alongwith Executive Magistrate 1st Class, conducted a raid at the said location. During the search, the team recovered and seized 9.8Kgs of contraband substance (Bhang Patri powder) concealed in a nylon bag. The accused was arrested on the spot and further investigation is underway. In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 18/2025 under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Gund.
Moreover, police in Awantipora arrested drug consumer in a suspicious condition, identified as Mehraj-Ud-Din Ganie, son of Gh Mohd Ganie, resident of Lethpora. During questioning, he admitted that he is regular drug consumer, and accordingly, he was shifted to drug de-addiction/rehabilitation Centre Tral where the test of the person was conducted and the report revealed positive. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 110/2025 under relevant section of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and investigation initiated, police in a statement said.
Police remain committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and urges the general public to come forward with any information related to drug abuse or peddling in their areas, police statement added.
