Srinagar, Oct 15: Rauf Tramboo, President of the Winter Games Association of Jammu and Kashmir (WGAJK), has been appointed Chairperson of the Selection Committee by the Olympic Ad-Hoc Committee for Ski and Snowboard India, tasked with identifying and selecting athletes for Alpine, Snowboard, and Nordic skiing events at the international level.
As per a statement issued on Wednesday, the nine-member selection committee headed by Rauf Tramboo includes Ludar Thakur (Vice Chairperson), Gul Mustafa Dev (Olympian, Eminent Athlete), Chuni Lal Thakur (Olympian, Eminent Athlete), Farhat Ali Naik (Snowboarder, Member), Rakesh Ranjan (Member), Pradeep Khandre (Member), Mudassir Ahmad Mir (Member), and Sadiq Ali (Member).
The statement issued read that in a letter received by the Winter Games Association of Jammu and Kashmir (WGAJK) from the Office of
the Chairman of the IOA Ad-Hoc Committee for Ski and Snowboard India, that says, “We are pleased to confirm the 9-member Selection Committee for the IOA Ad-Hoc Committee for Ski and Snowboard India.
The role of the committee will be to identify talent and select athletes for international Alpine, snowboard and Nordic skiing events. Your expertise and experience in the field are highly valued, and we believe that your contribution will be instrumental in ensuring a fair and comprehensive selection process.”
Rauf Tramboo’s alpine skiing profile dates back to the mid-70s; after receiving his basic, intermediate and advanced training with methods of instruction, he started imparting training as a guest instructor to IISM trainees. Tramboo later on switched to backcountry skiing and ski mountaineering.
As a senior and founding member of the Jammu & Kashmir Ski Mountaineering Association (JKSMA), Tramboo explored vast areas in the upper reaches of the Sind and Lidder valleys for backcountry skiing.
He took part in many ski mountaineering expeditions, including the International Ski Mountaineering Expedition to ski down Mt Kolahoi in March 1986.
