Srinagar, Aug 06: The Milky Way, a sweeping spiral of stars that paints a milky trail across the night sky, has long captivated both astronomers and photographers. Its ethereal glow—visible from Earth as a soft band of light—is a favorite subject for those chasing cosmic beauty. One such magical sight recently surfaced on Instagram, drawing widespread attention after a photographer captured it from an unexpected location: his own village in South India.

Brijesh Naik, a Mangalore-based photographer, shared the breathtaking shot on Instagram, revealing that it was taken in his hometown of Kepu village, near Mangalore.

Describing the serendipitous moment, he wrote, “There was no electricity in the village for two days due to heavy rains and strong winds. I was getting restless at home, so I stepped outside for some fresh air—then I looked up.”

The photographer’s shots impressed nature enthusiasts and travellers on social media. Here are some of the reactions:
“Light pollution is the greatest enemy for astrophotography. Your captures are really awesome. I wish I could take photos like this too,” one user wrote. Another shared, “I still remember those nights from my childhood, around 2012, lying on the rooftop, staring at the stars. The Milky Way was clearly visible at that time. I used to wonder… what’s really out there.”

“No power that night… but the universe lit up,” he wrote, adding in the caption, “Saw Milky Way for the first time.”
The video ended with photos of the Milky Way galaxy that he captured that night.
