Nilnag, Mar 24: To create awareness about forests and forest biodiversity and commemorate the World Forest Day, the Pir Panjal Forest Division Budgam on Tuesday organised a plantation drive and tree talk in Nilnag Forest Block of Doodh Ganga Forest Range.

The students of Government High School Gogjipathri, officials of the Forest Department, and members of J&K Climate Action Group (JKCAG), and JK RTI Movement participated in the event.

Speaking at the event, Chairman JKCAG and founder J&K RTI Movement Raja Muzaffar Bhat stressed on a massive plantation drive across Kashmir in view of drought-like situation witnessed in the past few years.

He said that air quality in Kashmir was also getting impacted and that problem could also be addressed by large scale plantation programmes. He appreciated the role of forest officials of the area in creating mass awareness about forests and forest biodiversity among students.

Range Officer Doodh Ganga Forest Range Zahoor Ahmad Khan stressed the students to constantly participate in the afforestation programme of the Forest Department so that they become green ambassadors in future.

He thanked the staff of Government High School Gogjipathri for their support in organising the event.

Block Forest Officer Muhammad Aslam Wani, Deputy Forester Riyaz Ahmad, members of JKCAG and J&K RTI Movement Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, Shabir Musroof, Muhammad Younus, and Arsalan Ibrahim also spoke at the event.

Greater Kashmir
