Srinagar, Aug 06: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently praised Union Minister Amit Shah, acknowledging him as India’s longest-serving Home Minister, while hinting that this achievement is just the beginning of his journey. This statement has sparked speculation within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that Modi’s endorsement might signal a more significant role for the 60-year-old Gujarat lawmaker in the future.
Addressing MPs at the NDA parliamentary party meeting, Modi referred to Shah and said he had surpassed the tenure of LK Advani who was previously the longest-serving home minister. “Yeh to abhi shuruwat hai…abhi aur aage jaana hai (This is just the beginning… he has a long way to go),” a person privy to the meeting quoted the PM as saying.

Shah’s tenure has been marked by significant points, including reducing Left Wing Extremism, curbing terror financing, and initiatives like the abrogation of Article 370 and the push for a Uniform Civil Code.
Shah’s organizational prowess was instrumental in the BJP’s resurgence in Uttar Pradesh in 2017, and he has played a crucial role in expanding the party’s presence across India, securing wins in previously challenging states like Assam, Manipur, and Tripura.
Modi’s confidence in Shah’s abilities is further underscored by his prediction that Left Wing Extremism will end by 2026. Shah’s blend of ideological commitment and pragmatic decision-making has earned him recognition within the party and beyond.
BJP leader, anonymously said that the PM’s statement can be interpreted as a reinforcement of the close ties between the two and also suggests a clarity in party hierarchy “There is a section of people who have been speculating about some issues including the hierarchy …but the PM’s statement seems to have put that perception to rest”.
