Police arrest 4 drug peddlers in Kashmir, contraband substance recovered

Srinagar, Oct 06: Continuing its unwavering drive against drug menace, Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Ganderbal, Budgam, Pulwama & Shopian and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

An official said that during patrolling near Old Akhal Bridge, police team intercepted a suspicious person identified as Riyaz Ahmad Khan, son of Mohd Ashraf Khan, resident of Parun Kunmulla, Akhal. During search, charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, a case vide

In Budgam, a police party from Police Post Humhama, during patrolling near Goripora, arrested a drug peddler identified as Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Rehman Sheikh, resident of Bandgam A/P Draigam Khansahib. During search, 05 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession, official said.

He also said that in Pulwama, during a naka checking at Circular Road near Payer Crossing, a police team from Police Station Pulwama arrested a drug peddler identified as Nisar Ahmad Ganaie, son of Abdul Ahad Ganaie, resident of Tahab, Pulwama. During search, officers recovered around 6 kilograms of a charas-like substance concealed in a nylon bag from his possession.

In a similar incident, police in Shopian have recovered contraband substances from the residential house of Ab Rasheed Koka, son of  Ab Gani Koka, resident of Melhura Zainapora, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Zainapora.

Acting on specific information, Police Station Zainapora registered a case under FIR No. 80/2025 of NDPS Act and obtained a search warrant from the Hon’ble Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate 1st Class Shopian. A team from Police Station Zainapora accompanied by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, raided the house of Ab Rasheed Koka. During search, 20.890 Kgs of charas powder like substance was recovered. The accused was arrested and investigation is going on.

The official said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
