Police debunk false social media post claiming militant strike on fuel tanker in Baramulla

Baramulla, Feb 06: Baramulla Police on Friday said that it has spotted a fake post circulating on X (formerly Twitter) through the following link: claims that militants has fired a rocket at an Army oil tanker in Baramulla, *which is completely false and intended to cause unnecessary panic.

In a statement issued, the police said that the facts are that on 05 February 2026 at around 1730 hours, an empty oil tanker bearing Registration No. JK01AN-8569 caught fire near Chinar Point, Pattan, while returning to Srinagar after unloading oil at Uri. Police and Fire & Emergency Services, Pattan responded promptly and brought the fire under control. The incident was accidental, caused by a short circuit, and no casualty or injury was reported.

Police warned that spreading false information is a punishable offence and those circulating lies will face strict legal action under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, 2000.

They advised public to avoid sharing unverified content and to rely only on official sources for authentic information.
