Srinagar, Feb 8: Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara Sajad Gani Lone has condemned the killing of Shia worshippers at Imambargah Khadijat-ul-Kubra in Pakistan, where innocent people were targeted while offering Salah.
As per KNS, Lone said the attack was “deeply shocking, painful and enraging,” describing it as a brutal assault on humanity and the sanctity of faith. “Targeting innocent worshippers inside a place of prayer is an unforgivable crime. Such acts of blind hatred have nothing to do with religion. Those who kill in the name of faith have no religion and no humanity,” he said.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families and the Shia comm unity, Lone emphasised that violence based on sectarian hatred only deepens divisions and fuels cycles of suffering.
“This barbarity is a reminder of the urgent need to stand united against extremism and sectarian violence in all its forms. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this moment of immense grief,” he added. Reiterating his commitment to peace and coexistence, Lone said that humanity, justice and unity must prevail over hate and intolerance.
“We stand firmly for peace, justice and unity. The world must speak with one voice against such crimes and ensure that perpetrators of sectarian violence are held accountable,” he said.
A suicide bomber killed dozens of people and injured more than 160 during Friday prayers at a Shia Masjid in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad. This was the deadliest attack in the country since January 2023, when a blast at a Masjid in the northwestern city of Peshawar killed more than 100 people.
