SMC pensioners flag declining benefits, submit memorandum to DC Srinagar

Srinagar, Mar 25: The SMC Senior Citizens Forum on Wednesday observed the nationwide “Call Attention Day” and submitted a memorandum of demands to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, highlighting the growing concerns of pensioners.

The programme was part of a coordinated countrywide protest organised by the All India Confederation of Pensioners, with similar representations made to district administrations across India.

A delegation led by Forum President Haji Bashir Ahmed met the DC and raised issues related to pension reforms, delayed benefits, and the declining safeguards for senior citizens. During the meeting, the delegation expressed concern over what it termed as a “gradual erosion” of pensioners’ rights, stating that the benefits and protections earned over decades of service are increasingly being overlooked.

“We are observing this ‘Call Attention Day’ to remind the administration that the rights of pensioners cannot be ignored. Our memorandum reflects the collective grievances of retirees struggling for dignity and financial security in their later years,” Bashir said.

The forum urged the government to take immediate steps to address pending issues, restore concessions, and ensure stronger financial and social security measures for senior citizens.

The Srinagar submission formed part of a larger nationwide effort aimed at drawing urgent attention to pension-related concerns and seeking timely intervention from authorities.
