Ramban, Aug 29: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained blocked for the fourth consecutive day between Udhampur and Chenani sector due to the sinking of road stretches at four different locations on Friday.
The blockage is due to the sinking of road sections at four different locations along the highway.
Meanwhile, road restoration efforts are ongoing around the clock.
To assist in these repairs, a dozen dumper trucks and JCB machines have been deployed to fill in the washed-away portions of the road and clear the landslides between the Udhampur and Chenani sectors of the highway.
On Friday, Inspector General of Traffic Police (IGP), Suleman Choudhary, along with SSP Traffic, National Highway, Ramban, inspected the highway from Chenani to Udhampur route.
Officials said that no vehicular traffic movement would be allowed from Nagrota, Jammu, towards Reasi, Chenani, Patnitop, Doda, Ramban, Banihal, and Srinagar.
Commuters from Katra and Udhampur have been advised to keep their photo identity cards to prove their identification so that their movement could be facilitated smoothly.
Traffic authorities have advised travellers not to undertake journeys on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway until the road restoration work is complete and the surface is safe for travel.
They have also urged the people not to heed rumours regarding the road status.
Meanwhile, the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway remained open.
Traffic authorities said one tube of each bridge of Lakhanpur-Madhopur, Sahar Khad, had been damaged due to incessant rains.
However, the second tube of each bridge was operational for vehicular movement on a regulatory basis.
The commuters have been advised to maintain lane discipline to avoid congestion.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, along with Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Saloni Rai, visited the flash flood-affected Udhampur and Chenani areas along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
The union minister visited the Thard and Bali Nullah areas to assess the situation.
Singh said road restoration work was going on around the clock and is likely to be completed on Saturday.
