Srinagar, Jun 18: Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan is arriving in Srinagar on Tuesday morning to review the security preparedness for the upcoming annual Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to commence on July 3, besides having deliberations about the prevailing security scenario in J&K.

Mohan is set to chair a high-level security review meeting here, which will be attended by top civil and security officials of J&K, including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, J&K Home Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, General Officer Commanding (GoC) 15 Corps Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava, ADG CID Nitish Kumar, senior officers from paramilitary forces, and representatives of intelligence agencies.

ìThe meeting will focus on a detailed security and logistical assessment for the 52-day-long pilgrimage, which attracts lakhs of devotees from across the country,î a senior official of the security establishment said. ìThe 2025 Amarnath Yatra will begin on July 3 covering both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes leading to the cave shrine situated at an altitude of 12,750 feet in the Himalayas.î

He said that the safety of every yatri was their utmost priority.

We are coordinating with all agencies to ensure foolproof arrangements. Every aspect – from route security, communication systems, to medical and disaster preparedness – is being closely reviewed,î the senior official said.

ìThe Government of India is committed to ensuring a safe and smooth conduct of the Amarnath Yatra. All necessary arrangements are being put in place in close coordination with the J&K administration and security forces. The focus is on multi-tiered security, enhanced intelligence coordination, and uninterrupted logistical support,î he said.

The senior official said that the Army is fully integrated into the joint security framework for the yatra.

ìAll efforts are underway to ensure the region remains secure and contingency plans have been prepared for all scenarios, including natural disruptions or hostile threats,î he said. ìWe are working round-the-clock to ensure administrative and security arrangements are foolproof.î

The senior official said that a close monitoring mechanism had been activated to respond swiftly to any emerging situation.

ìOur intelligence grid is functioning proactively. All inputs are being closely analysed and shared in real time with operational units. Coordination between agencies has been significantly strengthened ahead of the yatra,î he said.

The Union Home Secretary is also expected to interact with senior officers of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) including CRPF, BSF, and ITBP, to ensure seamless coordination with the J&K Police and the Army.

The senior official said joint security drills and surveillance along the yatra routes had already begun.

ìWe have identified vulnerable points and have enhanced drone surveillance, night patrolling, and road-opening parties to counter any potential threats,î he said.

The government has also made arrangements for RFID tracking of yatris, real-time weather alerts, emergency evacuation protocols, and dedicated health camps to ensure the smooth conduct of the yatra.

A multi-layer security grid, including both ground forces and aerial surveillance, would be activated ahead of the yatra.
