Srinagar Oct 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Wednesday witnessed uproar over “controversial” remarks made by the BJP lawmaker Shagun Parihar.
During the zero hour, ML Shagun Parihar said that an area in her constituency was neglected for the last many years.
“The roads in the area in dilapidated conditions. The area is being deliberately neglected for being Hindu majority area,” she said.
Her remarks triggered heated arguments in the House as the members from the Treasury benches opposed to her remarks saying suc statements have potential to raise divide within the communities.
“Besides Hindus, Muslims and sikhs are also nationalists. All are working for betterment of nation. Remarks used by BJP MLA be expunged,” Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary informed the House.
“BJP MLA (Shagun Parihar) is new to the House. She should avoid using such controversial remarks,” he said.
Dy CM said the people are living in Gandhian country and believe in equality.
To this BJP MLA Shagun Parihar said when PDP MLAs said that Hindus have adopted Divide and Rule policy, why didn’t the government ( treasury benches) raise objections.
Later, Speaker Legislative Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather asked the BJP MLA to avoid using controversial remarks while speaking in the House.
“You are new to the House and we wish you prosper in your career but you resort to using controversial remarks. Don’t do it,” Speaker said.
