Ramban, Apr 27: Srinagar -Jammu National Highway (NH 44) remained closed for repair works between Nashri and Banihal sectors on Sunday.

All the Jammu bound traffic was stopped at Qazigund in Kashmir and Srinagar bound traffic at Jakhani in Udhampur.

According to officials, the companies engaged by NHAI have pressed their men and machinery at several locations between Nashri and Banihal to clear the accumulated landslides and debris from the road.

Officials said, “NHAI has pressed its men and machinery in Karool; Mehad-Cafeteria; Ramban; Trushul Morh; Chamba; Seri; Kelamorh; Tunnel T2; Kelamorh-Maroog tunnel; Maroog; Battery Chashma; Panthyal and various other locations. Efforts are on to clear the landslide and debris to make the road stretch two-way.”

Till late Sunday afternoon, road repair and landslide clearance operations were going on.

“No vehicle, except ambulances carrying patients, were allowed to ply on either side between Nashri and Banihal on National Highway 44,” the officials said.

Earlier on Saturday on recommendations of Project Director NHAI, PIU Ramban, Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary had accorded permission to NHAI for widening of damaged road and undertaking necessary repairs.

As per permission accorded to NHAI, the traffic was suspended between Nashri and Navyug tunnel at 8 am on Sunday for 24 hours. The traffic will remain suspended till 8 am on Monday.

In fact, the movement of all kinds of vehicles was stopped after 5 pm on April 26, 2025 from Qazigund towards Jammu and from Udhampur towards Srinagar.
