Kota, Jun 14: Savan Kumar, who was left physically challenged due to polio at the age of two, is now set to stand on his own feet by pursuing
studies at IIT.
Hailing from Vibhutipur village in Samastipur, Bihar, Savan Kumar came to the ‘Education City’ of Kota and scripted a
success story.
An Allen student, Sawan secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 17,532 in JEE Advanced. Additionally, he achieved AIR-22 in
the PwD category and Rank 9 in the OBC-NCL PwD category.
Recognising Savan’s struggle and talent, Allen awarded him an 80% scholarship on his fees. Sawan had previously scored
99.1473246 percentile in JEE Main.
Savan contracted polio when he was just two years old.
This resulted in an approximately 70 percent locomotor disability affecting both legs, making walking difficult – a challenge
that persists to this day.
However, he never allowed this physical condition to become a weakness.
Savan comes from a modest farming family. His father, Prabhu Rai, does not own agricultural land and supports the family
through sharecropping. Savan received his early education at a village school.
Later, after excelling in the entrance exam, he received free education from Class 6 to 10 at Simultala Awasiya Vidyalaya in
Jamui, Bihar. After securing the 10th position in the Bihar Board Class 10 merit list, his family decided to send him to Allen
Career Institute in Kota to prepare for engineering entrance exams.
Savan says that this support proved to be crucial for him.
Without this assistance, it would not have been possible for him to undertake such high-level preparation.
Do not let any physical impairment become a weakness; instead, empower yourself through education and strive to bring
about positive changes in your personality.
He aspires to study Computer Science at the country’s premier institutes – IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, or IIT Madras.
In the future, he aims to join the Civil Services to serve the poor and needy sections of society.
Savan shared that his family has played a pivotal role in his life; they always encouraged him to lead a normal life and never
made him feel that he was lagging behind in any way.
Despite his mobility challenges, his parents always motivated him to move forward. Additionally, the faculty members in Kota
boosted his morale and provided the support needed to progress.
Naveen Maheshwari, Director of Allen, stated that Allen is always ready to assist talented and needy students.
