Anantnag, June 16: As part of the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan’ campaign to eradicate the menace of narcotics from the Union Territory, Anantnag Police booked seven individuals under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, officials said on Tuesday.
“Continuing its sustained efforts to combat drug abuse and eradicate the menace of narcotics from society, Anantnag Police has intensified its drive against substance abuse across the district, resulting in the registration of multiple cases under the NDPS Act,” the officials said.
In an official press statement, a police spokesperson said that in Bijbehara, Anantnag Police, in coordination with a medical team, conducted a drug screening drive using a Rapid Drug Detection Kit. During the exercise, five individuals tested positive for drug consumption and were subsequently booked under Section 8/27 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The accused have been identified as Ghulam Nabi Hajam, son of Ghulam Rasool Hajam, resident of SICOP, Bijbehara; Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Abdullah Sheikh, resident of Tak Mohalla, Bijbehara; Waseem Ahmad Dhobi, son of Ghulam Qadir Dhobi, resident of Badroo, Srigufwara; Showkat Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, resident of Sheikh Mohalla, Bijbehara; and Sartaj Ahmad Chori Saz, son of late Mohammad Abdullah Chori Saz, resident of SICOP, Bijbehara.
Separate FIRs numbered 165/2026, 166/2026, 167/2026, 168/2026 and 169/2026 under Section 8/27 of the NDPS Act have been registered against the accused, and further investigation is underway.
In a separate action under the ongoing anti-drug campaign, Police Station Kokernag received reliable information regarding two individuals found separately at different locations under suspicious circumstances. Both were apprehended and subjected to medical examination, where their test reports returned positive for drug consumption.
Accordingly, Tanveer Ahmed Malik, son of Mubarak Ahmed Malik, resident of Zalangam has been booked in FIR No. 75/2026 U/S 8/27 NDPS Act, while Subair Ahmed Tantry, son of Farooq Ahmed Tantry, resident of Zalangam has been booked in FIR No. 76/2026 U/S 8/27 NDPS Act. Further investigation in both cases is in progress.
