Delhi High Court designates special judge for paper leak cases after Centre announces fast-track courts

New Delhi, Jul 24: The Delhi High Court has designated Judge Anu Grover Baliga as a special judge to hear criminal cases related to paper leaks and the use of unfair means in public examinations, Bar & Bench reported.

According to Bar & Bench, a notification issued by the High Court on Thursday evening appointed Judge Baliga as “Special Judge (PC Act) (CBI)-25, (Specially Designated Fast Track Court), to try the offences under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 and connected offences.” The court will function from the Rouse Avenue Court Complex.

Judge Baliga was earlier serving as the judge-in-charge of the Mediation Centre, Central District, at the Tis Hazari Courts.

The appointment came hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the government would establish fast-track courts to ensure “swift and stringent punishment” for those involved in examination paper leaks.

The move follows nationwide protests over alleged paper leaks in competitive examinations. Students and members of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) have been holding demonstrations at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, demanding education reforms and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Bar & Bench reported that the special court will exclusively deal with offences under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, along with related criminal offences, in a bid to expedite the trial of such cases.
