Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited has strengthened its digital footprint in north Kashmir by commissioning a permanent telecom site at Mooldhari in the strategically significant Bangus Valley of Kupwara district and extending high-speed 5G services to Simari, a remote border village in Karnah.
At nearly 10,000 feet, the Mooldhari site in Bangus Valley overcomes significant geographical and logistical challenges to provide permanent telecom connectivity in one of the region’s most inaccessible areas.
In collaboration with the Indian Army, Jio has also commissioned high-speed 5G services in Simari, a remote border village in the Karnah Valley (Teetwal region) of Kupwara district. Popularly known as India’s Polling Booth No. 1, Simari is situated around 170 kilometres from Srinagar.
With the commissioning of these sites, both Bangus Valley and Simari have been connected to the country’s digital network, marking a significant milestone in improving connectivity in remote and border areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
The company said the difficult terrain and geographical isolation of the Bangus and Karnah valleys had long limited access to modern communication infrastructure. The deployment of Jio’s next-generation 5G network is expected to improve digital access and communication services in these frontier regions.
The new infrastructure will provide high-speed internet and reliable voice connectivity for residents, tourists, civil administration, and Indian Army personnel operating in the area.
According to the company, enhanced connectivity will facilitate access to e-governance services, digital banking, online education, and seamless communication. It is also expected to support tourism and local businesses by enabling homestays and other enterprises to leverage digital platforms.
Jio said the project was completed through the coordinated efforts of its engineering teams, the Indian Army, and local stakeholders, who worked together to overcome challenging operational and topographical conditions.
