Poonch, Aug 02: A huge landslide has caused widespread damage in Sarouti Jabran village of Sub-Division Mendhar of Poonch where a school and several houses have already collapsed, while cracks are gradually developing in many of the remaining houses.
According to local residents, the landslide had been moving slowly for the past several days, but the situation has now become extremely serious as the ground continues to slide.
The entire settlement is reportedly under threat, with fears that more houses may collapse in the coming days.
The affected residents are living in fear and uncertainty, particularly due to the continuous movement of the land and the increasing cracks appearing in their houses.
The residents have appealed to the Government and local administration to immediately assess the situation and take urgent measures to shift the affected families to a safe location to prevent any loss of life.
They have also appealed to all political leaders and public representatives of Mendhar to come forward and extend every possible assistance to the affected families during this difficult time.
The residents have urged the administration to send an expert team to the spot on an emergency basis, conduct a detailed assessment of the affected area, and make immediate arrangements for the safe relocation of the entire vulnerable settlement.
