Baramulla, Aur 12: Baramulla MLA Javed Hassan Beig on Wednesday said that several development projects approved for the district are yet to take off due to restrictions on quarrying operations and the lifting of mining material.
Beig said the curbs on the extraction and transportation of mining material have created significant difficulties for ongoing development works.
He said contractors are facing acute shortages of construction material, resulting in a sharp increase in prices.
According to the MLA, contractors have also expressed reluctance to participate in the tendering process citing the rising cost and limited availability of construction material.
“Despite scores of development projects being approved, the restrictions on quarrying and lifting of mining material are delaying their execution,” he said.
Beig urged the authorities to address the issue and ensure adequate availability of construction material so that approved projects can be taken up without further delays.
