Ramban aspirants seek local JKSSB exam centres, cite financial burden of distant travel

Banihal, Oct 12: Aspirants from Ramban district have urged the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) and the district administration to establish examination centres within the district for upcoming recruitment tests, citing the financial burden and travel-related hardships caused by allotment of centres in distant locations.

Several recruitment examinations, including those for Finance Accounts Assistant (FAA), Sub-Inspector (SI), Police Constable and other posts, are expected to be held in November–December 2026, prompting aspirants to seek timely intervention from the authorities.

Candidates said they are often allotted centres in Jammu, Udhampur, Samba, Srinagar, Budgam and other districts, forcing them to spend additional money on transportation, accommodation and food.

“We are already spending considerable time and money preparing for competitive examinations. Travelling to distant districts adds to our expenses, particularly for candidates from economically weaker families,” aspirant youth said.

They added that Ramban’s mountainous terrain, difficult road conditions and long travel distances make the journey especially challenging for candidates from remote areas, who may have to travel a day before the examination.

The aspirants have appealed to JKSSB to establish suitable examination centres in Ramban and urged Deputy Commissioner Ramban to take up the matter with the concerned authorities ahead of the forthcoming recruitment tests.

“Our demand is for accessible examination facilities, not any relaxation in recruitment standards. Local centres would reduce unnecessary expenditure and help candidates compete on equal terms, irrespective of their financial background,” the candidates said.

The aspirants expressed hope that the authorities would consider their demand before the November–December examination schedule, ensuring that financial constraints and geographical challenges do not become additional hurdles for the district’s unemployed youth.
