Hajj pilgrims to undergo 2-stage medical screening

Srinagar, Sep 2: The Hajj Committee of India (HCoI) has mandated a two-stage medical screening and fitness certification process for all pilgrims selected for Hajj 2027, introducing a new requirement under Section 21 of the Hajj Policy 2027.

According to a circular issued on Tuesday, the medical screening will be conducted in two stages. The first-stage screening will take place at the time of selection, while the second will be conducted closer to the pilgrims’ departure for Hajj.

The Primary Medical Screening (Stage-I) will be carried out at government healthcare facilities in the respective states by a Government Allopathic Medical Officer. All prescribed diagnostic tests will be conducted as part of the process.

Following the Stage-I screening, pilgrims will be provisionally selected and required to submit the Primary Medical Screening and Fitness Certificate along with a copy of their pay-in-slip.

The Haj Committee has advised pilgrims to retain their original medical certificates and investigation reports, as these will be required during the Stage-II screening and vaccination process.

The circular states that pilgrims found medically unfit under the prescribed criteria will not be permitted to undertake Hajj. Their candidature will be cancelled and the deposited amount refunded in accordance with the applicable rules.

It also cautions pilgrims against concealing or falsifying health information. Those found to have withheld or provided false medical information may face action, including forfeiture of their deposited amount.

The State and Union Territory Hajj Committees have been directed to coordinate with nodal officers at the district and state/UT levels to ensure timely completion of the medical screening process.

They have also been asked to promptly report cases of pilgrims found medically unfit to the concerned authorities.
