Jammu, Oct 11: The Public Works Department’s concept plan has ruled out the demolition of any existing structures for the construction of the proposed BC Road–Roop Nagar flyover in congested Jammu city, media reports said on Sunday.
The clarification came amid growing apprehensions over the possible demolition of existing structures for the proposed flyover, providing relief to residents and business establishments.
Sources said that the flyover will be supported by single pillars of small diameter, which will come up along the middle of the existing road.
“This arrangement is aimed at enabling construction of the elevated corridor without disturbing the structures located along both sides of the road”, they added.
The proposed flyover will originate on BC Road a few metres before Rehari Chungi Chowk and proceed toward Roop Nagar, where it will land at the T-junction. The elevated facility will provide two-way movement, with each tube having a width of around 5.5 metres, allowing traffic to move over the existing congested road network.
The second tube of the flyover will rest a few metres ahead of Ambphalla Chowk towards Manda, forming part of the overall elevated traffic arrangement planned for the area.
The project is being viewed as an important intervention for the chronically congested Ambphalla-Janipur corridor, which carries heavy traffic throughout the day and witnesses frequent bottlenecks at major junctions. The movement of vehicles through Ambphalla, Janipur, BC Road, Rehari and adjoining areas has increased substantially over the years, while the available road space has remained largely unchanged.
