The Kaul Family Legacy’ in New Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 12: Eminent statesman, philosopher and former Union Minister Dr Karan Singh launched Amongst the Chinars: The Kaul Family Legacy, authored by theatre director, writer and cultural historian Feisal Alkazi, at a literary event held at the Hyatt Regency, New Delhi, on Monday.

The book explores the Kaul family’s legacy, offering an opportunity to reflect on family history, inherited identity, and the preservation of cultural memory. Its title evokes Kashmir’s iconic chinar trees, which have long symbolised the region’s unique cultural and historical identity.

The launch brought together views on literature, history, and personal heritage, highlighting the importance of recording family stories within the broader context of India’s social and cultural history.

Dr Karan Singh, whose own life has seen significant political, constitutional and social changes in Jammu and Kashmir and independent India, presided over the book release. The programme also featured a discussion involving author and columnist Suhel Seth and former Supreme Court judge Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, adding a contemporary dimension to the evening’s reflections on family legacy and cultural identity. Amongst the Chinars: The Kaul Family Legacy contributes to the ongoing interest in documenting family histories and preserving stories of people, communities and traditions across generations.
