HDFC Bank’s Parivartan reaches 18,706 people across J&K

Srinagar, Nov 2: HDFC Bank’s corporate social responsibility initiative, Parivartan, has reached 18,706 people across Jammu and Kashmir through interventions in agriculture, education, healthcare, skill development, financial literacy and clean energy, the bank said on Monday.

Launched in J&K in 2014, the programme currently covers 15 of the Union Territory’s 20 districts, including 16 border villages in the aspirational districts of Kupwara and Baramulla.

Agriculture remains one of the key focus areas of the initiative, with 10,128 farmers supported through capacity-building programmes, farmer collectives, shared agricultural machinery, processing facilities and solar-powered infrastructure.

In the education sector, the bank has awarded 901 scholarships under its Educational Crisis Scholarship Support programme and established 60 smart schools, benefiting approximately 15,000 students.

The programme’s skill development and livelihood interventions have trained 1,057 young people, while 189 women have received support through employability, entrepreneurship and traditional craft-based activities.

Under its natural resource management initiatives, Parivartan has extended clean-energy solutions to 104 villages through solar-powered systems and community lighting facilities.

The bank also highlighted its financial fraud awareness initiatives, including the Vigil Aunty campaign, which has reached more than 1.72 lakh people.

Several interventions have been tailored to Jammu and Kashmir’s traditional agricultural strengths and regional requirements. These include support for saffron cultivation in Pampore through solar water pumps and dryers, apple and walnut processing facilities, and the cultivation of Kashmiri red chilli in Uri through polyhouse farming, drip irrigation and solar dryers.

To improve market access for agricultural products, the programme has also established a common brand, SAMARKASH, to help participating farmer-producer organisations market processed products through branding, packaging and market-linkage support.

Nusrat Pathan, Head of CSR at HDFC Bank, said the programme focused on need-based interventions designed around regional challenges, with emphasis on sustainable agriculture, education, skill development and infrastructure.

At the national level, HDFC Bank reported CSR expenditure of Rs 1,316 crore as of March 31, 2026. Its Parivartan initiative has impacted more than 10.77 crore people across the country, the bank said.
