Srinagar, July 16: Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau has registered a case FIR No. 05/2026 U/S 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at PS ACB Jammu against public servant, namely, Khajan Chand, Patwari, Patwar Halqa Mahanpur (Kathua) for demanding and accepting illegal gratification from the complainant.
A spokesperson said that the said accused public servant namely Khajan Chand, Patwari, had demanded bribe of Rs. 20,000/- from the complainant for providing the documents after getting the mutation attested in favour of the sister of the complainant. Out of which, he had already paid Rs 9000/- and the accused was further demanding Rs 11,000/-, which, after negotiation, was settled at Rs. 10,000/- for providing him the documents along with copy of mutation. Since, the complainant didn’t want to pay bribe money and approached Anti-Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against the accused public servant under law.
He said that on receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which corroborated the demand of bribe by the public servant concerned and accordingly, a case FIR No. 05/2026 U/S 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 is registered in Police Station ACB Jammu and investigation taken up.
During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and accused public servant, namely, Khajan Chand, Patwari, Patwar Halqa Mahanpur (Kathua) was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses.
The accused was arrested on the spot by the ACB team after following due process of law. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in the presence of the independent witnesses associated with the trap team. Moreover, search is being conducted at the residential premises of the accused person in the presence of independent witnesses in accordance with the law.
