Srinagar, Oct 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Monday witnessed uproarious scenes after Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather rejected an adjournment motion brought by BJP MLA Pawan Gupta seeking discussion on weather-induced losses in the Jammu region.
As soon as the Speaker announced that the matter would be taken up for discussion tomorrow, BJP MLAs stood up from their seats, raising slogans of “Stop discrimination” and “Insaf Karo, Insaf Karo,” demanding immediate attention to the issue.
The Speaker, however, maintained that the motion could not be taken up at that moment and referred to the rule book to justify his decision. His clarification eventually pacified the agitated members, bringing the House back to order.
The BJP legislators alleged that the delay in discussing the weather-related damages reflected “discrimination” against the Jammu region, insisting that the losses required urgent government response.
