Discharge of Kejriwal, Sisodia exposed high-handedness of investigative agencies: Mehbooba

Srinagar, Feb 27: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday said the discharge of former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders by a court in a corruption case had exposed the “high-handedness” of the investigative agencies.

“Today’s judgement discharging Kejriwal, Sisodia & Kavitha in the excise policy case exposes the high handedness of investigative agencies,” Mufti said in a post on X.

She said when agencies are wielded like political swords, justice becomes the first casualty, and truth surfaces only after “years of pain and tears.”

“No prima facie case. No credible evidence. Yet years of incarceration. Nothing is more dangerous than the misuse of power and the weaponisation of institutions. Yet somehow it continues unabated,” she added.

In a big relief to Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, a Delhi court on Friday discharged the former Delhi chief minister and his ex-deputy in the politically charged liquor policy case, as it refused to take cognisance of the CBI chargesheet.

Besides the two leaders, 21 more were discharged in the case.

Apple farmers to protest in Delhi against duty concession on US apples: Tarigami

Srinagar, Feb 27: Apple growers from Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will protest in Delhi next month against the proposed duty concession on US apples, in a bid to save domestic growers from losses.

India has granted a quota-based duty concession to the US on apples under the interim trade pact. Apples from the US will enter the Indian market without any import duties.

The growers are apprehensive that apples from th US will flood the Indian market and result in a major blow to the domestic farmers.

“We have formed an Apple Farmers Federation of India (AFFI) comprising apple growers from Kashmir, Himachal and Uttarakhand. We have decided to protest in Delhi in March (against the trade deal),” MLA Kulgam and trade union leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami told reporters here.

Tarigami said AFFI has appealed to the Samyukta Kisan Morcha to stand in solidarity with the apple farmers of the country who are facing an onslaught on their livelihood.

“The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, which forced the government to take back the three farm laws during the protests that lasted more than a year, has assured the federation that it will support the protest. They have promised that their leadership will join the protests,” he added.

On the Indo-US trade deal, Tarigami said it is “practically a surrender” before America.

“You would know that in this trade deal, the US has restricted India from buying oil from Russia. If our country has to buy something, we must consider the wishes of the US, we would not be sovereign in our decisions regarding trade,” he said.

The MLA from Kulgam said the apple industry is the backbone of the Kashmir economy.

“There are small industrial units in Jammu but we do not have many here. We had handicrafts but they are also in decline. Our last hope is apple but we cannot now compete with the American apple,” he added.

Auqib Nabi shines with record haul, J&K firmly in control

Srinagar, Feb 27: Jammu and Kashmir pace spearhead Auqib Nabi continued his sensational Ranji Trophy 2025–26 campaign by claiming a five-wicket haul to surge to 60 wickets this season, becoming the highest wicket-taker of the tournament.

The fiery spell not only powered J&K at a crucial juncture but also helped Auqib leapfrog the competition at the top of the wicket charts, underlining what has been one of the most dominant bowling seasons in recent domestic history.

With this latest five-for, the right-arm quick has now etched his name in the record books as the most successful bowler of the ongoing Ranji Trophy. His consistency across phases, ability to strike with the new ball and return to dismantle top, middle orders has made him the undisputed spearhead of the J&K attack.

Auqib’s numbers tell the story of a bowler operating at peak rhythm, relentless accuracy, sharp movement, and the temperament to deliver in big moments. Match after match, he has provided early breakthroughs and decisive spells that have shaped J&K’s historic campaign.

From standing second on the charts to now leading the tally with 60 wickets, Auqib’s rise this season reflects both endurance and evolution. More importantly, it strengthens his case for higher honours.

With performances of this magnitude, the “J&K wicket-taking machine” is making a compelling argument for national selection.

Jammu & Kashmir has tightened their grip on the Ranji Trophy Elite 2025–26 final after bundling out Karnataka for 293 on Day 4, on Friday, securing a massive 291-run first-innings lead and placing themselves firmly in command of the title clash.
